Rokusai Nenbutsu Lion dance, which has been handed down in Kyoto, is one of traditional arts. Also, it is designated Intangible Cultural Property. This is the street performance or musical program centering on lion’s acrobatics.
Although it is different from a musical instrument performance and dancing, it is big –name performance by the strength of the impression.
Rokusai Nenbutsu Lion dance is performed on August 12 to the 16th, at the center of Urabon. It is danced around the Houses Surrounding Chudoji Temple. Legend has it that if you put on this spider’s thread, it will become exorcism. Moreover, it is said that if you gather 3 spider’s threads and put into your wallet, money is saved. If you visit Kyoto, take it home with you!
