In September, when the summer is not over, people held a hot event in front of Meguro Station in Tokyo, that is "Meguro-no-sanma-matsuri"!
Here, I'd like to share with you the activities held on September 9th a few days ago!
"Meguro-no-sanma-matsuri" is an event held at Meguro Dori Ave, which is one minute walk from the east exit of Meguro Station.
Meguro-no-sanma-matsuri originated from the "Sanma at Meguro", a Japanese classical Rakugo, which is in order to let people know Meguro and taste the sanma grown at this place. 7000 fresh sanma were shipped from Miyako City, Iwate Prefecture, and would be distributed freely to the people after being char-grilled!
The closest station to the Meguro-no-sanma-matsuri shall be Meguro Station at Shinagawa-ku, but not the Meguro-ku in Tokyo. And Meguro Dori, the host venue, is actually located at Shinagawa-ku, so don't make a mistake!
Walking from the east exit of Meguro Station, a circular cross-shaped pleasure ground will jump into your eyes, there are many open-air stalls selling food and drink, and the clowns will send art balloons, bustling and extremely lively. From here, let's go to the Meguro Dori in the side way...
The rising smoke and fragrance when roasting the sanma will remind you that here is the venue for the Meguro-no-sanma-matsuri.
Because the fresh grilled sanma can be eaten for free, thus the venue of Meguro-no-sanma-matsuri is really loaded people every year!! The long queues are really shocking! At 10 o'clock in the beginning of the distribution, the line of people outside Meguro Dori was endless, which is a good 1.1 kilometers long!
The author has also been to the spot.
The author ate the paid drilled sanma sushi at the pleasure ground in front of the station, and grabbed a lot of delicious sambachi that could be squeezed on the sanma. A very satisfying experience at all!
There is another event in Meguro like the No-sanma-matsuri! You should go to visit if you are interesting in it!
